Modular grids set constraints that help to create a visual balance, communicating at both a micro and macro scale. Edward R. Tufte communicates this idea in his article "Micro Macro Readings" as he addressed micro and macro points of maps, cities, and statistics. Tufte addresses a map of Manhattan and later talks about the trains that run through Japan, which is why I was interested in including a subway map as a separate grid running throughout the poster. The close-up perspective of the train lines creates a sense of movement as they lead the eye around the page from the clear layout at the top to a more chaotic configuration as the viewer travels down, similar to the disorder that comes from traveling down to a subway station.
