My parents joined a cult church during their formative years of high school and college, dedicating years to an organization that they originally trusted wholeheartedly. Years after they joined, they realized that the pastor and church used judgment and shame as a ploy to get their members to devote their money and time, using people’s weaknesses as a deceitful tactic to keep their members isolated within their community. The power imbalance that the pastor held over the members relates to the child in the book, as he controls and oppresses the puppets while they try to navigate through new experiences. The inclusion of puppets relates to a significant part of my parents' involvement, as they traveled to different states to share their beliefs. Expanding on my previous project of the same title, I am able to reach a younger audience with the composition of a children’s book, sharing the danger of deception and the freedom of exploring what the world has to offer.
