Employing unlimited semiosis to the words “night” and “weight” explored an endless quantity of possibilities that connected these seemingly unrelated words.Night and weight both exhibit the never ending cycle of temptation, represented by imagery deriving from the saying “like a moth to the flame,” religious scripture, and feminist ideology. Night is represented by moths and the allurement of light, which acts as a beacon in the dark. This seeming promise of stability and protection is similar to Eve’s original notion of the apple in the bible, where the weight of reality brought on by temptation dismantles the illusion of security. Images of young girls continue to represent a loss of innocence, as the enticement of womanhood and being grown up fades and the realization that the end result may not be all that we hoped for sets in.
